How does laser hair removal treatment work?

The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into skin tissue where it delivers a controlled amount of therapeutic heat. Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together, the long-pulse laser and DCD cooling offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects.  Hair removal is noticable after just one treatment, but scheduling a consult with one of our trained laser techs will allow for us to determine how many treatments are needed in full.

 Does it Hurt?

Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with the laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of a rubber band on the skin.  This discomfort is minimized by Candela’s DCD cooling.  For some patients, a topical anesthetic may be used prior to treatment.  Be sure to discuss this with your practitioner.

What to Expect:

You would stop waxing or tweezing or using depilatories and only shave the area to be treated at least three weeks in advance. You will need to come to the office with clean skin and/or cleanse the area to be treated before you come in. The procedure will be conducted in a private treatment room. It may be handy to have ice packs ready for you to use at home if needed to relieve discomfort. We carry a line of skin care products designed for post-procedure comfort and optimal results.
